Multi-material 3D printer unveiled

The printer is equipped with triple-jetting technology.

By CBR Staff Writer

Stratasys has introduced the first multi-material 3D printer, Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer, which features triple-jetting technology combining droplets of three base materials.

The multi-material 3D printer combines droplets of three different base materials to produce parts using transparent colour materials as well as colour digital materials during a single print run.

According to the company, the automatic assembly option offered by the printer saves time and also helps product manufacturers validate designs as well as test them before starting large scale production.

Stratasys CEO David Reis said the company’s goal is to help customers revolutionise their design and manufacturing processes.

"I believe our new Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer will transform the way our customers design, engineer and manufacture new products," Reis added.

The device uses three colour materials including VeroCyan, VeroMagenta and VeroYellow that are combined to produce various colours, which can be used in combination with Stratasys’ digital, rigid, rubber-like, transparent, and high temperature materials.

Stratasys product marketing and sales operations VP Igal Zeitun said since its introduction in 2007, the Objet Connex Multi-material 3D printing platform has paved the way for the development of advanced 3D printing materials with mechanical and thermal properties.

"The Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer produces models and parts using photopolymers in vivid colours so you can create colorful models from investigating concepts to pre-production pilot runs," Zeitun added.

Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer also has six palettes for new rubber-like Tango colours ranging from opaque to transparent colours for markets including automotive, consumer and sporting goods and fashion.
