San Jose, California-based StrataCom Inc and the research and strategic technology unit of Ascom Timeplex Inc, Ascom Tech AG, Berne, Switzerland, have announced a licence agreement for two patents for Asynchronous Transfer Mode cell-delineation technology that Ascom will use in the design of its chips. The patents describe algorithms for the delineation of cells without adding extra overhead. Ascom will pay StrataCom undisclosed royalties on sales of its devices to third parties and on internal consumption of the chips manufactured by its affiliates. But purchasers, including Ascom units, will be free to use Ascom’s chips without obligation to pay additional royalties to StrataCom, say the companies.
