Color scanner operation Storm Technology Inc has bought peripherals outfit Logitech International SA’s scanner product line. Storm will pay Logitech, most recognized for its mouse development, $9m as well as giving it a 10% stake in Storm. The total value of the deal is estimated at around $11m. As a result of the deal, Storm will boost its international operations, giving it instant access to Europe, as well as expanding its product line. Storm will team up with Logitech’s European sales and marketing operation which consists of around 100 people, and will sell the scanners under the Storm name in the US, but under both Storm and Logitech in Europe. Romanel, Switzerland headquarted Logitech will get the opportunity to make further money out of Storm, dependent on the success of Storm in Europe next year. Mountain View, California-based Storm reported a second quarter net loss of $4m for the quarter to June 30 (CI No 3,206), while Logitech reported a first quarter 12.5% drop in profit to $2.1m (CI No 3,221). Logitech recently announced plans with SGS Thomson Microelectronics NV to put a digital camera inside computer monitors (CI No 3,283).
