Pushing hard to get away from its traditional mainframe roots towards the more lucrative Windows NT marketplace, Storage Technology Corp has combined its 9153 RAID disk storage product and 9730 automated tape library and packaged them up for Windows NT users. The combined system, under StorageTek’s OpenStorage brand name, has been built to attach to high-end clustered NT systems, and comes with StorageTek’s NetSentry remote security products and consulting and support services. The new 9153 RAID server, the first in a series of modular RAID systems, scales from 45Gb to 720Gb, holds up to 40 drives and is cluster ready, supporting Windows NT Ultra SCSI or fiber channel host attachments. It’s based on Data General Corp’s Clariion storage systems. The 9730 tape drives, previously rack-mounted, now come in stackable cabinet package for up to 1Tb storage. Larger 9714 and 9710 DLT libraries are also attachable. It should be available in the second quarter of the year, when pricing will be announced. Last year, StorageTek said it was hoping to double its revenues in the not-too-distant future by pushing into the NT market.
