Storage Technology Corp has decided to cede its remaining 49% in the Boca Raton, Florida-headquartered Siemens Nixdorf Printing Systems Ltd Partnership to the German partner, exiting the non-impact printer business altogether. The partnership was created in 1990 when StorageTek tossed its 100-employee business into a joint venture with Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems Inc, Burlington, Massachusetts in return for a 49% stake. At that time, the combination created a 500-employee company with annual sales of $100m (CI No 1,558). StorageTek, which excluded its impact printer business – whatever is left of Documation from the venture, says it wants to concentrate on storage products, but says it may pursue other alliances with the German in future.
