Still putting as much distance as it can between itself and its erstwhile image as a pure IBM plug-compatible systems supplier, Storage Technology Corp has now launched an authorised reseller programme for its tape drives, going after the 3,000 businesses that add value to tape storage products by creating interfaces for specific computer systems. The primary target systems are the IBM AS/400 and RS/6000 and oth er mid-range systems from the likes of DEC and Unisys Corp. Products offered under the programme include the 99XX and the 29XX series half- inch nine-track reel-to-reel tape drives, and the 42XX series 3480 compatible 18-track cartridge tape drives. StorageTek expects to get 40% of its sales of these products from the reseller channel in 1991.
