Louisville, Colorado-based Storage Technology Corp reported yesterday that it has acquired Sceptre Corp, which it reckons is the leading supplier of software to manage cartridge tape information storage in open systems environments. Sceptre, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan is privately held, and terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Sceptre’s products are Reellibrarian, Reelbackup and Reelexchange. The move follows the marketing alliance in November with Sun Microsystems Computer Corp and Epoch Systems Inc to supply automated tape subsystems to the Sun network market, and with Network Systems Corp in December on doing products to attach mainframe-class storage devices to networked environments.
