Steve Jobs has started showing his scholar’s workstation off to a privileged few, and word is that although box is expected to make innovative use of the Transputer, the basic machine is built around nothing more exotic than the Motorola 68030. In minimum configuration the Next workstation is said to come with 4Mb main memory, four slots and a keyboard that tucks under the machine. Described as a sleek black cube with Compact Disk quality sound, its graphics will be using Display Postscript, and the machine is rated at about 5 MIPS. Base price is still expected to be at or below $5,000, and Newsbytes reports that the machine could be launched as soon as May this year.
