Having said his company would at first put the Next Computer System only through educational establishments, Steve Jobs has now changed tack completely, and is to market the machine through the big San Jose-based Businessland retail chain. According to the Wall Street Journal, Businessland will have demonstration models of the machine on show next month, and will take orders for delivery in July. The machine will be the first from Businessland to run Unix. Next also says that Lotus Deevelopment Corp is doing a spreadsheet, Apple Computer Inc’s Claris Corp a word processor and Ashton-Tate Corp a database for the Next Computer System, each to be file-compatible with the companies’ products for MS-DOS and the Macintosh.
