The April deadline for Stet SpA to choose a foreign partner for its Italtel SpA telecommunications equipment manufacturer has now spun out to July, but the company is in an advanced but not conclusive stage of negotiations with AT&T Co, which has to be the likeliest partner – other contenders are L M Ericsson AB, Siemens AG and Alcatel NV: IRI, the state holding company that in turn is the parent of Stet, says that while Stet might well take a minority stake in Olivetti SpA – where AT&T has 23% – that is a separate issue and should not be confused with the AT&T-Stet talks.
