STET ENTERTAINS AT&T, ERICSSON, SIEMENS AND ALCATEL FOR ITALTEL

By CBR Staff Writer

Following the collapse of the merger agreement that would have created Telit out of Stet SpA’s Italtel unit and Fiat’s Telettra, Stet says that it is talking with four potential foreign partners for a telecommunications venture with Italtel. The four are AT&T & Philips Telecommunications; Alcatel NV; L M Ericsson AB of Sweden, and Siemens AG of West Germany. It responded to Italian news reports that it was close to an agreement with AT&T by saying that it was premature to express a preference for any one partner – but Italtel already has a distribution agreement with AT&T. Any agreement with Stet would be tied to preferred access to Italy.
