Sterling Software Inc’s Storage Management Division and CoreData Inc Friday announced an alliance to work together to market and develop data storage solutions focused on providing back up for the laptop and remote server markets. Initially, the alliance will be based on reciprocal marketing of products only, but a spokesperson for Sterling Software said co-development of new products will follow later on this year. It’s definitely something we’re talking about, she said. Under the agreement, Sterling will market CoreData’s RemoteWorx, backup and asset discovery software for laptops and remote servers while CoreData will market Sterling’s storage resource management tool, Vantage.

The two companies said the growing market for laptops and remote servers has created a market for automated data protection and a high level of data availability. There is great synergy between the technology road maps of our two organizations, Gary Legner, CoreData’s co-founder and VP of sales and marketing said in a statement. He added that by leveraging the companies’ technologies, existing market positions and support capabilities, the two hope to create products to fill the laptop and remote server space.
