STC Plc is drawing upon graduate expertise in Northern Ireland with the establishment of a Telecommunications Engineering Centre at Monkstown, Belfast. The centre will be ready for operation in 1989 and will be the site for design and engineering work on telecommunications systems including cordless telephone equipment, pagers and other radio-based devices. Employment will be provided for up to 50 people specialising in design andengineering, and the plant has invested heavily in computer aided design, engineering and flexible automated production facilities. STC already has a manufacturing plant at Monkstown, and the new centre will make up to some extent for job cuts there.
