STC Plc’s ICL unit has been awarded a contract worth over UKP35m to supply the electronic funds transfer operation of the BACS Bankers Automated Clearing Service Ltd with Series 39 mainframes, software licences and maintenance services: the hardware order alone totals UKP20m and is the largest ICL has received for the Series 39; BACS, financed by the UK clearing banks and building societies claims to be the largest electronic funds transfer operation in the world, and is modernising its operations in anticipation of increased direct debit and direct credit business.
