STB Systems Inc, the Richardson, Texas manufacturer of multimedia accelerators, has acquired 3D graphics board company Symmetric Inc. Under the agreement, Symmetric becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of STB and will maintain its management personnel and product line. The acquisition gives STB a quick route into the high end of the 3D market, while giving Symmetric access to STB’s customer base. A spokesman for STB said Symmetric was a good buy because its product line is an almost perfect complement to STB’s, and the acquisition allows STB to bring products straight to market without any lengthy development. The deal has been in the works for about three months. Financial terms were not disclosed.
