Singapore’s second full-service telecoms company StarHub continues to cause waves months before its official launch next April. Following the highly successful launch last weekend of its free internet access service, it has now announced it will share usage revenue with ISPs which direct internet traffic to its fixed-line network.
Under its ISP Partnering Program, StarHub will offer a cut of its phone charges to ISPs which directly connect their data centers to its fixed-line network. StarHub Internet Pte Ltd, the ISP arm of the group, is the first to sign up for the plan, said chief executive Tan Tong Hai.
There are indications other ISPs like Pacific Internet might also desert Singapore Telecom for StarHub when SingTel’s fixed-line monopoly is broken in four months’ time. PacNet chief executive Nicholas Lee said: Terry Clontz [StarHub’s chief executive] has made us an offer. I think it’s an excellent solution. We were going to approach him ourselves.
