The IP Multicast Initiative, which is managed by Stardust Technologies Inc, has won three new members. Formed in October to address the problem of overcrowding on the public Internet and corporate intranets (CI No 3,019), the Initiative now boasts 31 charter members. The new members are Ascend Communications Inc, DataBeam Corp and Lucent Technologies Inc. The members hope to speed the adoption of the native Internet Engineering Task Force IP Multicast standard by providing a set of marketing and educational services that promote the creation, use and deployment of IP Multicast products and solutions. Other members include 3Com Corp, Bay Networks Inc and Netscape Communications Corp.
