The Component Products division of Hauppauge, New York-based Standard Microsystems Corp has announced a controller chip for the 100Mbps Fast Ethernet standard. The new CMOS part, called the SMC91C100, is said to incorporate a dual-speed 10Mbps/100Mbps – CSMA/CD engine and to be software-compatible with existing Standard Micro controllers. The device will be incorporated into a Fast Ethernet adaptor to be launched later in the year. Beta test sampling will begin this month with general sampling following in June; the product will cost $42.67 in quantities of 1,000.
