The London Evening Standard and Piccadilly, London-based Telecom Express Ltd have launched CityFax, an electronic version of the Standard’s City pages, aimed especially at readers outside of London: users dial an 0839 number – each edition has a different one – to receive faxed, A4-sized replicas of the actual tabloid pages, minus advertisements; the service costs 36p per minute cheap rate, 48p otherwise – each transmission takes 20 mins -and is charged to the users’ phone bill; half the profits will go to British Telecommunications Plc or Mercury Communications Ltd; Telecom Express and the Standard will split the rest; that Lord Young has offered his endorsement is no suprise.
