STANDARD ELECTRICA AND MARCONI ESPANA TO LOSE 6,000 JOBS

The Spanish government has now consented to a lay-off totalling 6,000 jobs at the two former ITT subsidiaries now owned by Alcatel NV: the two are Standard Electrica SA and Marconi Espana SA; the latter is likely to be sold to L M Ericsson.
