STAC LEAPS ABOARD INTERNET, BUYS CALIFORNIA SOFTWARE

By CBR Staff Writer

Carlsbad, California-based data compression specialist Stac Electronics Inc has acquired California Software Inc, a developer of business productivity applications for the Internet, for $9m in cash and $1m in Stac shares. Stac said it was attracted to California Software by the company’s InterAp Internet applications suite, which includes a browser and access software, and is based on intelligent agent and Object Linking & Embedding technology. Stac also announced Replica for NetWare, which apparently performs real-time replication of Netware servers at much greater but unspecified speeds than those of traditional back-up software. It enables users to get immediate on-line access to replicated files through their native Windows File Manager or Windows95 Explorer interface. No pricing was given.
