System Software Associates Inc, the Chicago-based provider of ERP software and services, has reported a second-quarter net loss of $7.4m on revenue down 15.3% at $86.7m, compared to a loss of $9.4m in the year-ago quarter. On a per share basis, the loss amounted to $0.16, a penny worse than analysts surveyed by First Call expected. The quarterly loss was the sixth in a row for the company.

Software license fee revenue plunged 43.1% in the quarter to $28.3m, while services revenue was up 10.8% at $58.4m. SSA says weak second-quarter client demand was a reflection of weakness in the overall ERP market, although it reckons the slump will be temporary. For the six-month period, net loss was $12.5m on revenue down 12.4% at $176.4m. Results for the year-ago period include a one-time charge of $1.1m.
