The Internet Spyware Prevention Act would enable spyware makers to be fined or imprisoned for up to five years. It also gives the Department of Justice $10m a year for four years to enforce the act and other internet security laws.
It’s not the first time the House has passed similar legislation. On previous occasions, an equivalent bill has failed to pass through the Senate, which is required before legislation can be enacted by the president.
