Spyglass Inc has signed another deal with GTE Corp, as its GTE Main Street Inc unit has licensed Spyglass’ server-based browser technology, as well as its Prism content configuration and SurfWatch filtering software. GTE Main Street is GTE’s interactive cable television venture launched commercially yesterday to 15,000 homes in Clearwater, Florida, after a trial in Thousand Oaks, California involving 1,500 homes. The Spyglass browsing technology – Spyglass Remote Mosaic – is installed at the cable head-end. The Prism product reconfigures for delivery over cable TV and SurfWatch is capable of blocking obscene or other unwanted content. Spyglass’ cable and satellite TV consulting unit also helped GTE with the integration of the technology. Last year Spyglass signed with GTE for it to use Prism in enhanced-display telephones made by M-Power Corp. Spyglass closed up yesterday $0.875, or 8.4%, at $11.25 on more than three times its average trading volume.
