The nice thing about the Internet is that it is emphatically non-commercial, but it is far too successful for its users’ good to stay uncommercial for much longer, and Sprint Corp has announced it is offering a commercial link to the independent scientific and research database network presently used by universities and government agencies: Sprint’s service allows businesses access to many of the 8,000 databases on Internet, provided the company’s plans for using the network are cleared by the US National Science Foundation’s acceptable use policy; the new SprintLink service, expands on Sprint’s service to the Science Foundation, which connects its databases with similar ones in other countries.
