Comcast Corp, Cox Communications Inc, Time Waner Inc’s cable division and Advance/Newhouse Communications would now be able to sell bundles of products, including wireless and wire line phone service, cable TV and broadband.
Sprint Nextel and the four companies said they hope to develop new services by making devices work together, such as programming video recorders via a cell phone.
The announcement comes at a time when SBC Communications Inc and Verizon Communications Inc launch pay TV and other new services.
The new venture, which is slated to begin next year, also may use new wireless data services over Sprint Nextel spectrum. The companies also are expected to try new combinations of wireless and wire line phone services, such as a single voicemail box for more than one phone.
