Sprint may partner or form a joint venture with Craig McCaw, a pioneer of the mobile phone, and get cash from cable providers, according to the report. Sprint may spin-off WiMax as part of a potential deal with McCaw’s Clearwire, said the paper. No such deal has been confirmed by either party.
But Clearwire certainly has been busy inking other partnerships.
In separate news, Clearwire yesterday announced distribution agreements with satellite cable giants DirecTV and EchoStar Communications. Under the deals, Clearwire will, later this year, sell its high-speed Internet services to customers of both satellite companies.
That means DirecTV and EchoStar could bundle high-speed Internet into their existing offerings, as well as sell Clearwire-branded services separately.
