Sprint Corp, Kansas City, Missouri is now determined to wrap up an alliance as quickly as possible, and yesterday announced that it was discussing a global partnership with France Telecom and the Deutsche Bundespost Telecom, which would provide seamless global telecommunications services to business customers. The talks involve both European state monopolies investing in Sprint by buying a new class of Sprint common stock and would get seats on the board. Meantime the announcement by General Motors Corp that it is prepared to spin off Electronic Data Systems Corp to its GM Class E shareholders, coupled with failure of the merger talks with Sprint has raised speculation that British Telecommunications Plc may now take another look at an alliance with the Dallas-based computer services giant, although such an alliance is less pressing in the wake of the MCI Communications Inc deal.
