Sprint selected Symantec to provide security products that will be easy for novice users to install, while also allowing advanced capabilities for the technically savvy among their broadband customer base. Customers can choose from individual products or packages that include personal firewalls, anti-virus protection and content filtering software. The Norton Internet Security 2000 suite has received editor’s choice awards from PC Magazine and Smart Computing Magazine.

Broadband connections offer users new levels of speed and convenience, but they also pose unique security challenges, said Gary Warren, senior vice president for Symantec’s Service Provider Solutions Division. Symantec has developed a series of award-winning products to address these vulnerabilities. Sprint is to be commended for helping make their customers’ computing experience safe and secure.

Customers will use the Sprint desktop interface to link directly to a unique Web site. From the site, customers can order and instantly download their selected software over the Sprint network. Because of the high-speed service offered by Sprint ION and Sprint FastConnect DSL, the download time will be a fraction of what dial-up users around the country experience when obtaining software.

Downloading software used to take hours on a dial-up connection, said Crosby. Not to mention that many people would be in the middle of a download when they would lose their connection and have to start over. With the always-on broadband connection provided by Sprint ION and Sprint FastConnect DSL, those days are over.
