Digital music service Spotify has expanded its service to the iPhone, iPod Touch and phones using the Android platform.
Spotify said that the mobile application is available to its premium subscribers in the UK, Sweden, Spain, France and Norway for iPhone and Android users. It is also available for iPhone and iPod touch users in Finland.
The company said that the new app will allow users to access millions of tracks through its catalogue, previously available only on the desktop. It enables users to search and stream music instantly; browse by artist, title, album, genre, label or year; create and synchronise playlists; and view cover art for all tracks and albums.
The new application also allows users to download and play the playlists when not connected to the Internet. Users can also rewind, fast-forward, pause, skip and shuffle.
Gustav Soderstrom, director of portable solutions at Spotify, said: “This is a hugely significant day in Spotify’s short history. Since our launch last October, we’ve worked hard to provide our users with a high quality service that gives them access to whatever music they want, whenever they want it.
“As of today our users can access that music wherever they want, providing them with the best of both the online and offline worlds. We’ve now made it even easier to listen to all the world’s music, anywhere on the planet,” he said.
The Spotify app is free to download, but users need to sign up to Spotify’s monthly subscription plan costing £9.99 in the UK.
