SPLITROCK BUYS PRODIGY SAYS REPORT

By CBR Staff Writer

According to Inter@ctive Week, struggling internet service provider Prodigy Services Corp has done more than just outsource the maintenance of its US network to Texas-based SplitRock Services Inc as it claimed (CI No 3,223): SplitRock is said to have actually acquired the network for an amount said to be less than $1m by the paper. Prodigy, now down to one million subscribers, could save up to $50m in expenses over the next 18 months. Splitrock plans to use the network, with 230 points of presence, as the basis for a high-speed communications network for large companies.
