SpectraLink Corp, Boulder, Colorado has come out with a wireless PABX, the SpectraLink 2000 Pocket Communication System, described as a large-scale indoor cellular phone system for non-licensed commercial use in the US: it works with an organisation’s existing PABX or Centrex system and digital radio transmitting and receiving cells have to be installed throughout the building or campus, enabling users to move freely throughout the facility carrying wireless, 6oz pocket-sized telephone; the SpectraLink 2000 PCS uses spread spectrum radio technology within the 902MHz to 928MHz frequency range and a time time division multiple access/code division multiple access technique to eliminate the near-far transmission problem, and increase system capacity; the thing supports up to 2,000 phones and up to 400 simultaneous conversations over an area of 15m square feet at $25,000 for each 100,000 square feet; pocket phones cost $645 apiece, and the system will arrive in the fourth quarter.
