Storage management systems company Spectra Logic Corp has released the latest version of its backup and archival offering, Alexandria 4.00. The Boulder, Colorado company claims the latest version of Alexandria enables enterprises to have greater flexibility when it comes storing and tracking data. New features include Year 2000 compliance, improved tape duplication and management, interchange capability with mainframe storage devices, graphical user interface enhancements and extended support of Oracle Corp and Informix Software Inc databases across networked environments. Users of large Informix or Oracle databases can now easily backup diverse server systems, which in turn can be connected to any automated tape library on the network. The company has also introduced AlexClient/NT, enabling users to backup and recovery to Windows NT and Windows 95. The AlexClient offering enables access to some 60 robotic tape library systems attached to a Unix server, in turn enabling better flexibility and tape manageability.
