Spectra-Physics Inc, the San Jose company that claims to be the world’s largest maker of lasers, has invested in Sunnyvale neighbour Visulux Inc, which produces high-resolution laser projection systems for video and computer graphics. The investment by Spectra-Physics strengthens our relationship by allowing us to form a key technical alliance with the leading producer of state-of-theart lasers, according to Frank Gibeau, Visulux president. The $1.2m investment by Spectra-Physics, itself recently acquired by Ciba-Geigy Ltd of Switzerland, gives it a seat on the Visulux board.
