Sparc resellers are again annoyed at Sun Microsystems Inc, saying it’s stalling the market. They claim they cannot deliver that el cheapo Sparcstation 5 box for $4,000 because they can not get the monitor to work – it won’t interface properly with the frame buffer. As of two weeks ago, deliveries were being quoted at 90 to 120 days. Resellers claim that Sun’s lethargy in fixing the problem because because margins on the widget are so painfully thin. This way, buyers in a hurry have to start with a box costing $11,400. However, the overall impact, they complain, has been to stifle purchasing of low-end Sparc boxes across the board.
