Cinet SA, a firm belonging to the Catalan Foundation for Research recently launched Ole as the first Internet search engine available in the Spanish language. Manager of Cinet Xavier Buyce said that the primary objective of Ole is to promote the use of Spanish on the Internet after all, it’s a language that’s spoken by more than 350 million people worldwide, he said. The search service is free, since it has been financed by the Catalan Foundation for Research and will be maintained by advertising. Ole’s search structure has been based on Yahoo! Inc’s Internet search engine, with a directory of subjects and the option of searching for Web sites in Spanish alphabetically. The searcher is currently linked to 2,000 entries, .cw 8with 3,500 Web sites pending verification.
