Madrid-based SEDISI comprises 600 hardware, software and IT services vendors in Spain including IBM Corp, SAP AG, and the country’s largest integrator and outsourcer Indra Sistemas SA. It said its member companies reported a combined 8% decline in revenue last year to 11bn euros ($12bn), which was the first time SEDISI had reported a decline since 1992.
Hardware manufacturers were the worst affected, posting an 18% decline in sales, with software vendors’ revenue down 5%, and IT services providers’ sales falling 4% during last year. However, SEDISI chief Josep Maria Vila expects a positive trend in 2003, driven by demand from small and medium-sized companies and the country’s relatively low penetration of IT tools and services, relative to other European Union countries.
