Sourcebooks, an independent US-based book publisher, is set to launch an online digital bookstore this week to focus on romance titles.

The company will offer selected digital romance novels of popular romance writers, including Grace Burrowes and Catherine Mann for a monthly fee at discoveranewlove.com.

It will be available from 10 April and will offer six-month subscriptions for $9.99, where members can download one book every month and can also buy additional titles at discount from Sourcebooks’ library of over 150 romance writers, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Sourcebooks publisher Dominique Raccah said the goal of the Web bookstore is to provide a site for readers to discover new writers by talking to one another.

"We don’t see this as a challenge to Amazon, but rather as an experiment," added Raccah.

Consumers can also talk to the authors online and comment and have live chat through the new site.

Initially, the books from Sourcebooks will be sold without digital rights management, but if piracy becomes a major problem, the company plans to consider the feature later.

Last year, the company published 12 national best sellers including children’s picture books, adult nonfiction, and historical fiction.
