SOPRA EXPECTS YEAR 2000 AND EURO TO PROPEL GROWTH

By CBR Staff Writer

French systems engineering firm Sopra SA expects the demand for systems upgrades for the euro and the Year 2000 will propel its revenue growth this year 30% higher than last year to $225m, compared to $181.4m. Its net profit should more than double, to between $6m and $7.8m this year. Already, for the first half of the year, Sopra reported revenues of $111.4m, up 46.4% over the same period last year, while profit for the period was up 410% to 880,889. Sopra, which has acquired the information technology divisions of French banks Societe Generale and CIC, expects to recruit 600 engineers next year. The demand is there, said president Pierre Pasquier, and so is the revenue growth potential.
