Sony Electronics Inc has revealed release details for the VAIO C1X PictureBook — what it claims to be the first notebook PC with a built-in digital camera (CI No 3,446). The device is a 266-MHz Pentium MMX system, running Windows 98 with an integrated Charged Coupled Device (CCD) camera which can record snapshots or up to 60 seconds of video. It will be marketed at mobile professionals with image-reliant communication needs, such as real estate agents. The camera will have a swivel capability, and PictureGear software to allow image stitching into 360 degree shots. It is due to start shipping in March at an estimated retail price of $2,299.
