Sony’s new console has long been tipped to revolutionize the home entertainment market with its cutting edge technology, but that technology now seems to be bringing its own pressures.

The specifications of the console’s Blu-ray drive, being pioneered by Sony, have yet to be finalized by the consortium developing it, which could delay the launch.

In addition to this, analysts Merrill Lynch have warned that the technology being employed could turn out to prohibitively expensive, and could force the manufacturing costs of each machine up to $900 per console.
