Sony Corp plans to follow up its first generation personal computers due this autumn with a second generation by March next year that the company promises will be more entertaining than existing models. According to the Associated Press, Sony is thinking in terms of a home server that will emphasize Internet access and will run other machines in a home, including interactive television, stereo and video games. Meantime the models for autumn are expected to include two specialized high- end desktop EditStations, one running Windows NT, the other Windows95, designed for large organizations developing video and World Wide Web applications. The machines are expected to be able to handle non-linear editing, so users can treat video as if it were textual data and mix digital and analogue clips.
