SONY SETS 325Mb ERASEABLE OPTICAL DRIVE FOR OCTOBER

Sony Corp is planning to start sampling an eraseable 5.1 magneto-optical disk drive this October – with the drives going for $675 and the exchangeable platters at $200. The disks will store 325Mb per side and the drives will offer a data rate of 510Kbytes-per-second and a transfer rate of 1Mbyte-per-second. The drives will have an SCSI interface; volume is set for early 1988.
