SONY OPTS FOR MOTIF

By CBR Staff Writer

Sony Corp has, as reported, opted for the Open Software Foundation’s Motif as the standard graphical user interface on its News range of workstations: the company is a member of both the Foundation and of Unix International, but decided on Motif for various reasons including the fact that it had the functionality required for building multi-lingual applications, and many other manufacturers were also adopting it; it still uses Berkeley 4.3 Unix and has no current plans to use the Sun Microsystems-AT&T Open Look.
