Following the break-off of its original equipment manufacturers agreement with Intel Corp that saw Intel making Sony Corp’s desktop personal computers (CI No 3,182), the company has announced it plans to begin direct sales of its Pcs. This will put Sony in direct competition with the likes of Dell Computer Corp and Gateway 2000 Inc. The company told the International Herald Tribune that it saw direct sales as a complement to the retailers who sell its product, and said it would not compete with them.
