Despite the noise it has made about the things, Sony Corp had still sold only 3,000 of its News multiprocessor Unix workstations by the beginning of this year. No word on how many have been sold since then, but the company is currently producing the things at a rate of 500 a month. Its ambitions are much greater than that however, and it says it will go to 1,000 a month in February, and rise to 5,000 a month when its new News plant opens up in October.
