Sony reveals eight DVD models could be blocking Freeview access

Technology firm still not solved problem, but has suggested steps to fix recorders.

By Joe Curtis

Sony has admitted that up to eight models of DVD recorders may be denying customers access to Freeview channels after a malfunctioning software update.

The home entertainment giant has revealed the update, which left thousands of people without access to Freeview over the weekend, has affected the 2007/08-built RDR-HXD770 / 790 / 870 / 890 / 970 / 995 / 1070 / 1095 models.

The company is still working with broadcasters to solve the issue and to discover how it happened, and in the mean time has released a series of steps to follow for customers to fix their recorders.

They must switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains, waiting for 30 seconds before reconnecting it. When the device is then switched on it should work, but if not may require a full factory reset.

Sony tweeted irate DVD owners on Sunday to apologise for the problems, and warning them it was experiencing ‘a major technical issue’.

Dozens also took to Twitter to complain of the issues.

Mark Fisher tweeted Sony to say: "Spent Sat night and Sun morning frigging around with my Sony Freeview box, thanks for nothing #Sony."
