The struggling smartphone producer unveiled the handset on its Japanese blog.

Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z4.

The upcoming release from the Japanese electronics manufacturer, featuring an aluminium frame and a large screen display of 5.2 inches, was announced on the company’s Japanese blog.

It was revealed that the new handset would feature a 5.1 MP image sensor and wide-angle lens with 25mm focal length, which Sony claimed would tackle the growing demand for social networking.

Sony also chose to highlight the audio functions of the device, describing its high resolution capabilities and its high-quality wireless music playback audio compression technology.

Running Android 5.0, the device carries 32GB of ROM and 3GB of RAM. It is one of the latest phones to be announced that uses the most advanced Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 processor.

The thinner Xperia Z4 will be launched at some point during the summer, although specific details were not given. Amidst continually declining profits, Sony announced a restructuring of its smartphone division back in September.

Sony claimed in the post that the phone showed a "commitment to quality and a sense of commitment to the pursuit of functionality design and strength".
