Sony Mobile has teamed up with Japanese autonomous driving start-up ZMP to create Aerosense, a new drone manufacturing company.
Targeting the enterprise, Sony will provide its camera, sensing, telecommunications network, and robotics technologies, which will be combined with the automated driving and robotics technologies of ZMP to create the drones.
Drones are catching up in various sectors as it can be used in regions where other mode of communication cannot reach.
Companies are exploring to use it for various purpose and retail giant Amazon has introduced drones to deliver products to its customers.
Sony expects the drones to be a comprehensive solution that will cater to industry requirements like measuring, surveying, observing, and inspecting.
The service is expected to start for enterprise customers beginning in 2016.
ZMP said in its mission statement: "Robot of Everything: To create a safe, fun and comfortable lifestyle with robotics technology."
"In line with this, ZMP has developed its automated driving technology and put it into use in various fields.
"To date these solutions have been limited to the ground; with this joint venture, ZMP will take to the skies and apply its expertise in an entirely different realm, as it aims to create new services that were not possible on land."
Sony is planning to venture into package cloud solutions and Internet of Things (IoT), and according to the company, Aerosense is a major step in that direction.
