Owners of Sony DVD recorders lost access to Freeview TV channels over the weekend as the company received complaints of a malfunctioning software update.
The home entertainment giant tweeted irate DVD owners yesterday apologising for the problems, and warning them it was experiencing ‘a major technical issue’.
Sony HXD recorders which were updated with new firmware 1.70 fix seemed to be the boxes affected by the malfunction, and dozens took to Twitter to complain of the issues.
Mark Fisher tweeted Sony to say: "Spent Sat night and Sun morning frigging around with my Sony Freeview box, thanks for nothing #Sony."
Seán O’Byrne responded to Sony’s online apology by saying: "Not good enough. Poor PR on your part about the whole Freeview update."
Others used the social networking site to suggest solutions, such as performing a manual software update, though none have yet been endorsed by Sony.
The Japanese firm told people yesterday that a dedicated teram of engineers were working to solve the problem.
CBR is awaiting an update, having approached Sony to discover whether the issue has been fixed.
